This course has been revised and is required for all newly promoted supervisors; this course teaches the basics for making the transition from line officer to supervisor. Required for all newly promoted supervisors, this course teaches the basics for making the transition from line officer to supervisor. Upon completion of the class, students will be able to set up and manage a counseling session and be able to recognize the major symptoms of burnout in their employees. Students will also be able to identify the basics of social skills and be able to function effectively by applying those skills in any type of setting either on or off duty. The course meets the requirements for compliance with 1701.352 of the Occupations Code for new supervisor training. The new supervisor course also updates its students about the following topics: TCOLE rules and legislative changes, role identification, values, ethics, principles, leadership styles, communication basics, counseling techniques, liability issues, civil rights, racial sensitivity, cultural diversity, and special investigative topics.

In a law enforcement setting, the primary objective of combative striking is not to engage in a prolonged boxing match or set up sport-style combinations, but rather to serve as a functional, objective-driven bridge to gain control. When primary grappling attempts are stalled or shut down by a resistant subject, targeted strikes create a momentary physical overload that breaks their base and alters their behavior, opening up immediate opportunities to transition back to control holds, takedowns, or handcuffing. Furthermore, combative strikes serve as a critical defensive tool to disrupt or foul a subject’s attempt to draw a weapon, allowing officers to safely close the distance without taking damage. Whether jammed in tight quarters where grappling mechanics are restricted or facing a charging suspect, well-placed strikes effectively manage distance—either creating necessary operational space or reclaiming the initiative to ensure officer safety.

- 16-ounce boxing gloves

- MMA gloves (if you have them).

- Mouthpiece Recommended (No full contact sparring however anytime you are training combatives wear a mouth piece)

- Duty belt with blue gun and training blade (if you have them)

The purpose of this course is to educate law enforcement officers about issues pertaining to serving as a mental health officer. The course covers the legal aspects of mental health commitments, liability issues, mental disorders, and mental disabilities. In addition, it deals with a variety of developmental disabilities including epilepsy, cerebral palsy and hearing impairments. Other areas covered include:
- indicators of mental illness;
- understanding mental illness;
- documenting the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work with the mentally ill, their families, and the mental health system; and
- intervention strategies for dealing with both low and high-risk situations.
